Bulk Milk Cooler
A bulk milk cooler is a refrigeration system used to store and cool large quantities of raw milk on a dairy farm or in a milk collection center. It typically consists of a large insulated tank or vessel with a refrigeration unit, a milk agitator, and a control panel. The tank can hold anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand liters of milk, depending on the size of the cooler.
The milk is usually transported from the milking parlor or milk collection point to the bulk milk cooler using a pipeline or a milk transport vehicle. Once the milk is in the cooler, the refrigeration unit cools it down to a temperature of around 4°C (39°F) or lower, which helps to slow down bacterial growth and preserve the quality of the milk.
The milk agitator helps to ensure that the milk is evenly cooled and mixed, preventing the formation of cream layers or cold spots. The control panel allows the operator to set the desired temperature.
Bulk milk coolers are important for ensuring the quality and safety of raw milk, as well as for meeting regulatory requirements for milk storage and transportation. They can also help to reduce milk spoilage and waste, which can have economic and environmental benefits for dairy farmers and processors.
